About the Program
The Arctic Frontiers Student Forum (AFSF) is a cutting-edge international and interdisciplinary program that gathers 20 to 30 bachelor’s and master’s students from across the Arctic. Held alongside the Arctic Frontiers conference, the forum provides a unique platform for cross-border and cross-sectoral networking, peer-based learning, and professional development. Participants engage in both the main Arctic Frontiers program and dedicated AFSF activities, giving them broad exposure to critical Arctic issues and key voices shaping the region’s future.
The primary goal of the AFSF is to build capacity and strengthen networks among Arctic youth for the betterment of the Pan-Arctic. Through a blend of academic sessions, skill-building activities, and cultural exchange, students are given the opportunity to develop valuable competencies and explore diverse perspectives. The forum offers space for emerging voices to reflect on shared challenges, envision new solutions, and contribute to sustainable and cooperative Arctic development.
What to Expect
The Student Forum is an immersive, week-long program that brings together students from across the Arctic. During this program, the students will engage with key regional issues, spark dialogue, and explore innovative solutions for the future of the North.
Participants gain a deeper understanding of the Arctic’s challenges and opportunities while building networks and developing their skills through conference sessions, workshops, group projects, and social and cultural events. The program is closely integrated with the 2026 Arctic Frontiers conference: Turn of the Tide. This will allow the students to learn from and interact with leading voices in science, policy, and industry.
To ensure participants are well-prepared, the program includes four mandatory webinars leading up to the conference. The program covers all core expenses – including travel, accommodation, meals, and conference participation. For students studying at institutions in Northern Norway, travel costs are only covered from places in Norway, not from abroad.
Students will be asked to provide proof of travel and health insurance, and share accommodation in twin rooms with other participants of the same gender. Roommate preferences will be collected when you apply. If you have concerns regarding accommodation arrangements, you are encouraged to reach out before applying.

2026 Arctic Frontiers Student Forum
Applications for next year’s iteration of the student forum opened up on September 10th. All Master’s and Bachelor’s level students from Northern Norwegian, Northern Finnish, Northern Swedish, and Greenlandic universities, as well as the University of Iceland and the University of the Faroe Islands, are invited to apply.
We also invite Canadian applicants who are either enrolled at a Canadian educational institution or are Indigenous knowledge holders from Northern Regions. For Canadian participants, preference will be given to applicants belonging to the following groups: First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and people from or living in a Northern area. Northern area is defined as: the three Territories (Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut), Nunavik (northern Quebec), Nunatsiavut (northern Labrador), and the Churchill region of northern Manitoba.
The program will run from February 1st to February 7th, 2026, in Tromsø, Norway. This includes travel on the first and last day. In some cases, it might be necessary for Canadian and Greenlandic participants to travel for an extra day to and from.
If you are a student passionate about Arctic issues and possibilities, looking to connect with peers from across the region, this is your chance to get involved!
