SESSIONS

Tuesday, 28th of January

This session will focus on the intricate relationship between geopolitical tensions and the sustainability of life in Arctic communities, highlighting how demographic continuity and security are closely tied to global dynamics often beyond local control.

Amid rising international instability and geo-economic shifts, the need for cross-border dialogue and cooperation has become more pressing, especially as Arctic communities bear the impact of distant conflicts and historical legacies.

The session will explore how physical and ideological borders shape Indigenous life and disrupt traditional ways, calling for an in-depth examination of Arctic livelihoods, cultural diversity, and resilience.

Wednesday, 29th of january

This session will delve into the critical intersection of sustainability and innovation in Arctic shipping, addressing how to balance the growing need for maritime transport with environmental stewardship.

As shipping intensifies in Arctic waters, the sector must pivot toward carbon-neutral and energy-efficient solutions, employing advanced propulsion technologies, digitization, AI, and smart energy systems. However, realizing these goals requires robust policy support, cross-border collaboration, and infrastructure that meets the unique demands of the Arctic.

This session aims to drive knowledge-sharing and foster quintuple helix partnerships that prioritize environmental resilience and economic sustainability in the region’s maritime activities by bringing together key maritime stakeholders, including industry, Indigenous communities, researchers, and policymakers.
